Why the simple act of breathing may be making your neck pain worse

Let's face it, the world our bodies evolved to live in and the one that we force them to be part of are very different. This is definitely the case with our body's approach to breathing during stressful times in our lives.

Here's an example:
You all of a sudden develop neck pain (maybe it came for no reason or maybe you were recently in a motor vehicle accident). For any rational and reasonable human being, realizing you are injured is quite stressful. You think to yourself "How am I going to get everything done you had planned to do for the next few hours, days, weeks, or possibly months?"

Over the next few days your situation starts to get worse so you come to me for physiotherapy treatment with the following symptoms:
  • Headaches
  • Tender shoulder muscles
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or tingling into the extremities
  • Lightheadedness
  • Weakness
  • Sleep Disturbance
